UP: a short review

I just watched Pixar's newest film, UP, and I must say I am disapointed. In my opinion, Pixar is going downhill. Toy Story is by far still the best film they have produced, with Toy Story 2 coming in close second. I was not too impressed with Wall-E, and am very disapointed with UP.
It had its good points, but overall just was not a good story. I think they tried to put in too many sub-plots. I absolutely hated the doberman with the high-pitched voice. I guess that was supposed to be funny, but it struck me as just stupid. I didn't like the dogs in general. I did like Dug because he was such a typical dumb dog. Some of his lines were pretty funny.
I think what bothered me the most about this film is that I thought it was supposed to be a kids' film, and it really isn't. I made the mistake of letting my kids watch it before I myself watched it (a mistake I won't make again), and there were several parts that disturbed them. At one point, my four year old yelled, "Mommy, this is not a good movie!" and ran to his room nearly in tears. Later, when my husband and I watched it, I realized it had way too much violence, peril, and mature themes in it for kids.
The idea of the house floating via helium balloons was fun, but it truly was a disapointment. I give it two stars at best.

I loved it. I thought it was cute, and while the dogs talking bothered me in the theater they, strangly, didn't bother me when I saw it at home. I think there are some very tender moments in this movie.

I'm still waiting to see this one. It is the first Pixar in a while that I haven't seen in the theater (after my disappointment with WAL-E. Of course that may be related to the fact that I missed some of the key parts of WAL-E). We'll definitely preview it before letting the kids watch it. But I also think that Pixar is taking a nose-dive (so is Apple. Curse you, Steve Jobs!).

It was an decent movie, I agree about it not being geered toward young children. I have to admit that I thought the dog with the high pitched voice was hillariouse. I loved it, he was suppose to be this big tough leader , but kept getting a glitch in his voice simmulator to make him sound rediculouse, funny.

Oh, I have to stand up for Wal-E. I love it.

I think you mean geared, hilarious, and ridiculous, stiny. And WAL-E is pretty Awesome-Sauce.

In many ways they had to make Alpha have a funny voice. There had to be some foreshadowing, something to make him look funny to the other dogs, in order for Doug to become the new Alpha dog. Otherwise they would have to get rid of all the dogs at the end of the movie. This way they can become good dogs under the leadership of Doug. I love Wall-e too, probably more then Up.
